The Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) conducted its re-accreditation site visit in March 2010. In preparation for the review, which occurs every seven years, Dean Gotto established a Steering Committee and 12 subcommittees to complete a self-study of the key facets of the institution.
Of particular note, the LCME acknowledge the following institutional strengths:
- Dean Antonio Gotto, Jr. has provided stable and effective leadership and has fostered an institutional spirit of commitment to excellence in education, research, and clinical care.
- Institutional priorities are set through a phased strategic planning process which has been highly successful in achieving education, research, clinical, and fiscal goals in a steady, focused, and measured fashion.
- The college has been extraordinarily successful in fundraising to achieve programmatic goals.
- Student participation in research is encouraged and facilitated across the spectrum of basic, clinical, and translational research.
- The college has developed a comprehensive approach to global health education, including the development of a formal global health curriculum.
- Faculty exhibit a strong commitment to medical student education and are readily available to students seeking information and academic assistance.
- The Student Health Service and Student Mental Health Services provide exemplary services and access to students.
A positive final report was received in June 2010 and re-accreditation has been approved for the maximum 8-year term.
