About Us
The Risk Management and Insurance Department at Weill Cornell Medical College (WCMC) promotes a safe and healthy environment for patients, faculty, staff, students, and the visiting public by applying proven risk management principles and insurance where appropriate.
In addition, it is our responsibility to ensure that Weill Cornell Medical College operations are in compliance with Federal, New York State and New York City environmental health and safety codes and other applicable regulations.
What we do
- Provide risk management and insurance resources in a variety of areas including, Legal, Human Resources, Sponsored Research, Clinical Trials, Capital Planning and Construction, Ambulatory Care, Patient Safety, Student Health, Emergency Management, Laboratory Safety , Engineering and Maintenance, Academic Affairs, Office of Global Health.
- Supervise the Weill Cornell Environmental Health and Safety division.
- Work with the leadership of the Physician’s Organization to develop and implement clinical risk management training programs and policies designed to reduce loss.
- Participate in managing the Weill Cornell Malpractice Insurance Program.
- Perform accident investigation and loss prevention training.
- Negotiate, implement, and manage the Weill Cornell insurance portfolio consisting of a vast array of insurance types.
- Develop and implement property protection and business continuity plans.
- Negotiate and supervise the Weill Cornell Medical College-Qatar insurance program and provide technical consultation for their Environmental Health and Safety program.
- Review and negotiate risk management and insurance aspects of contracts.
- Direct the negotiation, design, and implementation of the student health insurance program.
- Handle the following types of claims: property, general and auto liability, student health, student disability and act as liaison with claims adjusters.
- Administer, manage, and maintain incoming and outgoing certificates of insurance.
